About Legatum Cellars Winery

Legatum – Latin for legacy – the vineyard and winery has been a labor of love, family and history. What started as a hobby is now our retirement plan.

We began looking for property, vineyards and wineries over a decade ago on the Western Slope. Then we met David and Karin Fuselier and ended up purchasing half of their vineyard at Spring Creek Vineyards in 2014. We enjoyed sharing the dream and driveway with them until they retired and closed their winery in January 2019.

The winery was designed and built by our family. We have tried to bring the sense of history and family into every nook and cranny. The tasting room is a converted pole barn, the front face of the tasting room and bar inside are covered in wood reclaimed from Rich’s family’s 110-year-old barn in Nebraska. The family feel extends outward from the tasting room to the comfortable patio, children’s playgrounds, gazebos, yard games and peaceful vineyards. All of which are available for our guests to enjoy.

Opening the tasting room for the first time in November 2016, we are now open each Saturday from noon to 5pm year-round. Still a family run boutique winery, we process small batches of unique varietals and blends, as well as some popular classics.  With over 20 labels available, we only fill the tasting list with 8 bottles each weekend. For a while, each time you stop in, you will probably taste something new.

People join us to taste the wine but end up having a great afternoon, finding themselves relaxing on the patio while the kids play on the playground. We’re all about making people happy. It’s more about an experience than just buying wine.

It is our hope that we will leave a legacy in our community and for our children and grandchildren that will enrich the lives of many. Our dream is that this will be a place that will leave its mark on your heart too. We hope you will become a part of our family/community.
